The 1% program of Public Architecture connects nonprofit organizations in need of design assistance with architecture and design firms willing to donate their time pro bono. The 1% program seeks to increase the quality and quantity of pro bono design. The program is inspired by groups such as the Taproot Foundation, a leader in pro bono service by business professionals. The 1% program is made possible thanks to crucial financial support from the corporate and private foundations, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), Boston Society of Architects (BSA), The American Institute of Architects (AIA), as well as leading firms such as Elness Swenson Graham Architects (ESG), Hammel, Green & Abrahamson (HGA), Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum (HOK), HKS, McCall Design Group, Peckham & Wright Architects (PWA), and Perkins + Will.
